Why Use Cartoons?
That's an excellent question...and the answer is simple. Cartoons do more than just
provide a visual image to reinforce your point...they also add humor and an element
of fun to your presentation. This is what gets them laughing...and learning!
|
The Concept...
"First You Laugh, Then You Learn."
Lots of presentations feature clip art, some even use high-end graphics and transitions...and
those things may make your presentation look cool and high-tech...but they won't
make it memorable!
Let's face it...your presentation is competing with a lot of other things in your
audience's lives. So you need to do something to carve out a little space in their
memory for your message. What's the easiest way to do this...make them laugh!

day wasted."

How humor improves retention
- Laughter causes our bodies to release endorphins, and reduces the hormone released
during stress response.
- Our heart rate quickens, our brains become more active.
- Humor puts us in a better state of mind and makes us more receptive.
- Our minds and bodies make a connection between what we've seen or heard and
the good feeling that followed.
- All of this leads to...improved retention!

Still Not Convinced?
Think about it...you've spent thousands of hours in the classroom - from
Kindergarten to that training session you just sat through last month...how much
do you remember? Can you recite lines the teacher or trainer said? Of course
not. But a song comes on the radio you haven't heard for 20 years and you
remember it note for note! You turn on a TV show or movie you
haven't seen in years and you can quote lines like you just watched it yesterday!
Why does this happen? Because our brain has made a connection between what we saw
or heard and the emotions we experienced. Laughter, pain, happiness, sorrow,
fear, joy...all leave lasting impressions in our mind. This is why Humor is so effective!
It leaves a lasting impression and makes sure your message is retained!
